This study includes a brief introduction to the macro- and microstructure of the Houaiss dictionary, a theoretical framework based on Portuguese grammars and dictionaries (published in Portugal and Brazil), and European theoretical and empirical sources. Examples of nouns and adjectives derived with the suffix -(t) ári(o), -(t)ári(o/a) collected in the Houaiss Dictionary (2001) are analysed, the morphological schemes are explained with special reference to the types of morphological structures of the bases, in terms of syntactic-semantic types and products of nouns and adjectives. Because of their high fruitfulness, only those lexical units are studied which have a high probability of being singular or specific terms of law or jurisprudence (terminology). A repertory is included following the references.
