Uma análise semiótica do discurso sobre a língua
Keywords:
Portuguese language, image, discourse, schoolAbstract
Resorting to Greimas’ semiotics, we analyze in this paper the content plan of Portuguese teachers’ speech so as to fi nd out which language images emerge in their discourse. In general, there are two overlapping images: the image of a heterogeneous “object”, but with hierarchical uses (some better than others) in statements about the good and the bad norm, and the image of a homogeneous “object”, in a discourse which favors the single norm, in which the standard variety stands for the whole language. This double image that reveals a “sliding movement” from the “normative” to the “normal”, the “natural”, is more or less stable in the corpus (answers to a questionnaire) and exhibits a stereotyped – and even misconceived – knowledge of the language.
