Abstract
A arguta frase de Meillet, Chaque époque a la grammaire de sa philosophie, expressa não somente o relativismo das posições teóricas da Lingüística através dos tempos, mas da própria ciência de maneira geral. No fundo, sempre a finitude do saber humano em face da infinitude do pós-conhecer. Concretizando o pensamento do grande mestre francês, podemos constatar que a gramática, no Ocidente, foi literária com os gregos e romanos, especulativa na Idade Média, humanista no Renascimento, filosófica no Iluminismo, positivista com o Cientismo, formalista no Estruturalismo. O Gerativismo, ou antes, o Chomskysmo, é um caso à parte, como procuraremos demonstrar. [...]
