O particípio presente em cartas de Bernardo de Claraval
mudança e conservação na língua portuguesa
Keywords:
Bernardo de Claraval, present participle, functionalism, grammaticalizationAbstract
Investigation of the present participle forms of the verbs present on 23 letters, written by Bernardo de Claraval, in the twelfth century, in the original Latin text, focusing both on conservation and change of this structure in the trajectory of the Portuguese language. Eighty-nine participle forms constitute the corpus collected. The data were interpreted according to the functionalism theory, taking into account the processes of grammaticalization in its categorical and semantic derivation, as well as the prototype theory. Cases of functional change and conservation of usage were detected, ranging from the Middle Age to the contemporary Portuguese, in the demonstration of the continuity and linguistics change trends.
