Published in 1536, the Gramática da Linguagem Portuguesa (Grammar of the Portuguese Language) by Fernão de Oliveira, is a very interesting text that contributes to a better understanding of linguistic ideas and linguistic concepts in Europe, of the XVI century. Although he gives us a very good phonetic description on producing Portuguese language sounds, our main interest here is directed to words classification.
