Repensando o fenômeno da epêntese vocálica no português do sul do Brasil
Keywords:
vowel epenthesis, neogrammarian controversy, Brazilian PortugueseAbstract
We discussed the post-lexical character of the vowel epenthesis in Brazilian Portuguese (Collischonn, 1996) based on data from 144 speakers from six cities in southern Brazil from VARSUL database. We brought evidence that this phenomenon has post-lexical behaviour, but may also have lexical characteristics. We propose that epenthesis is in an intermediate stage, in other words, that the phenomenon occurs primarily in the post-lexicon and later on in a few words, is “raising” to the lexical component.
