The Brazilian Dicionário Houaiss is the most comprehensive dictionary of Portuguese. However, it becomes obvious that in compiling the material, a certain number of important reference works and written sources were not fully made use of. This article proves it by double-checking the dating of first records and points out the importance of revising the concept for this extraordinary dictionary.
