Abstract
Os estudos linguísticos vêm, neste início de século, trilhando caminhos variados, abrindo novas sendas, em que propostas teóricas recentes se unem a antigas teses. Na verdade, o que se sabe hoje sobre a língua, sua história e seu funcionamento, seja nos limites do sistema linguístico propriamente, seja no amplo domínio dos usos discursivos, é consequência dessa plurifacetada dimensão com que se traça atualmente o perfil da Ciência Linguística.
